The station at the former Schönefeld Airport was bleak and confusing, with unclear signage and a chaotic mix of communication styles. Navigation was difficult, and the space felt dark and unwelcoming. Our solution: an artistic wayfinding system under the theme “Cultural Playground Berlin.”
Bright colors and dynamic patterns bring clarity and energy, with each direction assigned a specific color zone. Large arrows and carefully arranged elements guide travelers intuitively, revitalizing neglected areas and creating a welcoming environment. An additional level of communication, which can be found at neuralgic decision points, provides information on the direction and expected time to the desired destination. This increases the feeling of security of being on the right track and being able to estimate the time required at all times.
The concept deliberately integrates pop into both new and historic parts of the station, combining bright colours with intuitively understandable shapes and dynamics.
